What Is 10DLC?
10DLC stands for 10-Digit Long Code and it refers to a 10-digit phone number that businesses can use to send SMS and MMS messages to their customers. 10DLC is a newer messaging channel that was developed in response to the growing demand for commercial messaging in the US, particularly for businesses that need to send higher volume of personalized messages. 10DLC is designed to replace shared short codes, which present a higher risk of spam. It is also more affordable than dedicated short codes.
Why Is It Necessary To Register?
Over the last two years, US mobile carriers have made numerous changes to SMS and is requiring all businesses to register how they are using SMS. Each SMS-enabled number must be registered and assigned to a campaign, or it will be considered “unregistered SMS.” Although the mobile carriers have not yet started mass blocking of unregistered SMS, they will begin more aggressively to filter and throttle unregistered and increase surcharges.
